Sociable Honors Juneteenth

On June 19th, Sociable will honor Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

"Juneteenth is a day that honors Black freedom and Black resistance, and centers Black people’s unique contribution to the struggle for justice in the U.S. This Juneteenth is a rare moment for our communities to proclaim in one voice that Black Lives Matter, and that we won’t tolerate anything less than justice for all our people." -sixnineteen.com

Juneteenth was born on June 19, 1865, when Union general Gordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, Texas, that all previously enslaved people in Texas were free. This year's celebration resonates a bit different in the context of the continuous injustices we see against our Black neighbors. Sociable wants to bring people together to put in the leg work, and make our community a better place for everyone. These conversations aren’t always easy, but it’s important to remember that we must allow ourselves to be vulnerable and uncomfortable if we ever want to witness real change.

With our resources stretched a bit thin due to the events last few months, we’re relying on #SociableNation to help us make an impact this Juneteenth. On 6/19, anyone who brings us a donation receipt supporting a racial justice non-profit, dated within the last week, will receive their first pint on us (see below for restrictions). In addition to your donation, we want to encourage our fanbase to take some time to learn about the significance of Juneteenth and make a point to set aside some time to spend with anti-racism resources. Our goal is to spread the message of anti-racism as far as we can, with the resources we have.

Below are some resources we’ve found helpful, but feel free to share your own as well!
